Volunteer Role Descriptions


Board Member (10+ hrs. per month) (where needed)

We are a nonprofit organization that runs on Volunteers to observe, plan and implement all programming on both the Recreational and Competitive sides of the club.

Attend Monthly meetings to Collaborate with other Board members regarding Vista Soccer Club events, ideas, needs and action plans. Attend events and assist with any area of need. 

 

Positions available:

President: Oversee all operations of Comp and Rec. 

Vice President: Oversees the Rec programs day to day and all Rec seasons. (Back-up President when needed)

Dir. Of Recreational: (Oversees the Recreational program) manage and organize the seasons as each season approaches. Use To-Do-List in Drive to help through the process.

Director of Recreational Coaches:

Dir. Of Referees: Manage and organize the Division 6 games so they have Junior Referees on Saturday, pay the junior refs, maintain the peace on the field for the junior referees through the day, help the parents and the Junior referees through the process of being a referee.

Dir. Volunteers: someone that could organize volunteers (Field Marshall) to maintain the fields at Lake Park on Friday & Saturdays, setup the goals, put away the goals and be responsible for maintaining conduct on the field on game days, paying the referees throughout the day.

Dir. At Large/Special Events: (Coordinates events or schedule to attend local events)

Dir. Of Assignments: (Assign players to teams & creates game schedules)

Dir. Of Fields: (Attend city mtgs, be at the field every Saturday to collect game cards from field Marshals, submit field request for City of Vista/ Oceanside. Manage the light Schedule request.)

Dir. Of Inventory: Be behind the scenes at the clubhouse. Counting a variety of Gear and documenting, labeling, and separating gear for future orders or exchanges. Position will require some light lifting up to 30 lbs.

Head Coach (16+ hours) (on field)

  • Deliver quality coaching by motivating the ability of the athletes.
  • Keep abreast of rules and strategies in the favor of the players and the team.
  • They will supervise over the players to come up in their weak areas and reinforce them to play in the spirit of the game.
  • Maintain discipline among the players to abide by the timings for running activities and help them to perfect their skills in the face of offense and defense game positions.



 

Assistant Coach (9+ hours) (on field)

  • Support head coach to deliver quality coaching by motivating the ability of the athletes
  • Keep abreast of rules and strategies in the favor of the players and the team.
  • They will supervise over the players to come up in their weak areas and reinforce them to play in the spirit of the game.
  • Maintain discipline among the players to abide by the timings for running activities and help them to perfect their skills in the face of offense and defense game positions.
  • Motivate the players to play a free game and build their confidence to face the loss and keep them grounded with a winning performance. 

Division Coordinator (9+ hours) (clubhouse/field)

  1. Help Dir of Rec Coaches find remaining coaches that are needed in their assigned division:
  1. Most coaches sign up early, but there are going to be a few in most divisions that need to be recruited.
  1. Update Perspective Coaches list with new coaches on Google Drive.
  1. Update Practice Fields sheet with coaches practice fields, days, & times on Google Drive.


 

2. Follow up with volunteers in their division:

  1. Make sure volunteers have completed admin forms (coaches, assistant coaches, team parents).
  1. Assist parents/coaches who need help with uniform exchanges when they are not able to get to the clubhouse during scheduled office hours.
  1. May be asked to follow up with emails from club members (coaches, parents, etc.) in their division.


 

3. Assist Field Marshal during season:                                

  1. Will need to sign up for two to three 3 hour shifts during the season (Saturdays only).
  1. All hands on deck for the final week of the season to assist with the final day (mid week meeting, collect registration forms from coaches, and distribute medals).

Team Parent (10+ hours) (field/at home)

  • Keep communication between the Coach and parents. 
  • They can keep a copy of the team roster and game schedule and announce practice times/locations, or schedule changes. (after they have been finger printed). May use Team App or Team Snap.
  • Schedule game snacks and establish a “snack” schedule for the games. Most teams choose to establish a schedule where each player is responsible for one game.
  • Remind and enforce team to keep sidelines clean after games.
  • Ensure parents/Spectators DO NOT coach players and respect all referees.
  • Collect money for Uniform name labels and or Banner if applicable for the team.
  • Arrange and reserve end of the season Team party, plan gift for Coach.

Timekeeper for Division 7 (2-4 hr. shifts) (on field)

  • Keep time for games in D7 to make sure they start/end on time.
  • Games are 41 minutes total:
  • Four 8 minute quarters.
  • Two 2 minute breaks after 1st and 3rd quarters.
  • One 5 minute half time.
  • Volunteer needs a whistle.
  • Whistle marks the start/restart of each quarter 
  • Whistle marks the end of each quarter.
  • Whistle marks the end of a break/halftime:
    • Once teams are back on the field from break/halftime, a second whistle marks the restart.

Repaint Fields (3-4 hr. shifts) (on field)

After the initial lines have been painted at the beginning of the season, we need to repaint the lines every week until the season is over. Lake Park can have 4-6 fields and RDO can have 1 field.

Field Set-up (1 hr. shifts) (on field)

There is a lot to do before the event starts on game day! Assist our Field Marshalls in Setting up Goals, flags, Tables, Easy -ups at various Game field locations. Friday night and Saturday Mornings. 

Field Break Down (1 hr. Shifts) (on field)

Great for groups! When it is all said and done, we often need volunteers to help shut down the game fields. Duties include taking down signs, moving Goals, Collecting Flags, Tables, picking up trash from the surrounding area. Standing, bending, lifting 25-50 lbs., getting dirty are all required.

Field Marshal (2+ hr. shifts) (on field)

FM is volunteered to help monitor the fields immediately before, during, or after his/her players’ games.

BEFORE THE FIRST GAME

Direct Set up the Field Marshal and Referee table with an Easy up (if needed) and a couple of chairs/bench at each site. The Club Field Marshall Coordinator is to arrange for this ahead of time. Assist the Coordinator with setting up: A copy of the Coaching manual, Game schedules. Extra game cards, pens or pencils, Club emergency contact phone numbers. 

PREGAME:

MOST IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE GAMES START ON TIME. If games do not begin on time, our late games will not finish as scheduled. If you believe that the games are getting behind schedule, you must check in with the referee to reduce the game time as appropriate. 

A) Read and become familiar with the Game rules or have a Coaches manual available for referenced and the Field Marshal duties.

B) Address any field hazards (holes, standing water, etc.) as needed or requested.

C) If the ref has not shown up 15 minutes prior to game time, you will need to check the players in. You need to do the following:


 

  • Check in the players (and coaches) against their game cards (take attendance). No player may participate unless they are on the game card. 
  • Verify that each player’s jersey number is correctly listed on the game card 
  • Check that all players are wearing shin guards by having them tap on them. Socks must be pulled up over the shin guards.
  • No players may wear any jewelry, including earrings, rings and necklaces. 
  • Check that all players have appropriate footwear. Players may not wear baseball cleats (noted by the cleat at the toe of the shoe), and they may not wear footwear that includes metal studs. Soccer cleats only.

DURING THE GAME

A) The home team supplies the game balls.

B) The Field Marshals address spectator behavior as needed or requested by the referees, coaches, or other spectators. Please refer to code of conduct, signed by all registered.

POST GAME

A) After the game is completed obtain the game card from the referee. Make certain that it is filled out completely including cautions, red cards, and warnings to coaches in addition to the score. It should be signed by the referee and any neutral AR’s.

B) Turn in Game Cards to the lead Field Marshal. 

AT THE END OF Last Scheduled GAME.

Remove tables, chairs/bench, easy-ups etc. Coordinate Breakdown or Move goals to designated areas. (Need 4 or More people to Cary, Not drag Goals to designated areas.) Make sure that all trash has been picked up and placed in garbage cans, and your field is in good shape.

Trash pick-up (2+ hr. shifts)

Put on your walking shoes and smiles, help to keep our game fields clean and free of debris. Check in with Field Marshal regarding any extra areas needing help. 

Floater (Event Assistant) (3+ hr. shifts) (various locations)

If you read through the positions and find that you can't make your mind up — no worries! "Floater" is the job for you! Duties will include being flexible and adaptable to any role that may need additional assistance. Possible events: Storm Gear Sales, Concessions, Opening day, Soccer Fest. Requirements — Flexibility and a can-do attitude! 

Volunteer Guideline

As a volunteer, you are a representative for Vista Storm SC and should treat athletes, guests, participants, and other volunteers with the utmost courtesy and respect.


 

  • Attire options include clean clothing or athletic gear and comfortable shoes. Storm gear is always a plus.
  • Be prepared to answer many types of questions. Familiarize yourself with your soccer program prior to your shift. You will get more instruction upon arrival.
  • Once you sign up, we depend on your commitment to be part of Vista Storm SC. Your prompt arrival and completion of your shift are vital to the club's success. When you sign up, you commit to being present for that specific shift(s) during the entire length of that shift(s).
  • If you need to reschedule your designated shift, please give 5 days notice by contacting directorofcompvistastormsc@gmail.com.
  • You may not consume any alcoholic beverages or smoke during your volunteer shift.
  • You may not talk/text on your cell phone during your volunteer shift. If you need to make a call, please arrange with a Vista Storm SC staff member to step away briefly.
  • Check out with a Vista Storm SC staff member at the end of your shift.
  • Pets are not allowed with you during your volunteer shift.
  • Vista Storm SC is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
